Past Presenters

Porter Arneill holds a Master's degree in fine art from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. After graduate school, he created and exhibited his own work while assisting artists with public art projects in the US, Europe and China. He has served as the Director of Education and adjunct curator at Laumeier Sculpture Park and Museum and as the Director of Public Art and Education for the Regional Arts Commission, both in St. Louis. He is currently the Director and Public Art Administrator for the Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Art Commission. Porter is also an officer on the KCVLAA board of directors.

Marcus Cain is a recognized exhibiting artist and Managing Editor of Review. He is also the Coordinator and Curator of the Kansas City Art Institute's (KCAI) Corporate Partnership Exhibition Program that showcases artwork by KCAI graduates in the offices of companies that support the Art Institute through membership in the Corporate Partners Program. Marcus is also an adjunct professor teaching painting and drawing at KCAI.

Sherry Leedy is owner and Director of Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art. Sherry has been a prominent Kansas City gallery owner for over twenty years. Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art represents internationally ecognized artists, including Michael Eastman, Jeff Aeling, Judy Onofrio, Dale Chihuly, and Jun Kaneko. An active and respected visual artist herself, Ms. Leedy has a unique understanding of the gallery/artist relationship.

Bill Quick is an attorney with Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus PC and engages in a business-oriented practice with experience in representing public and private business entities in corporate governance and general business and commercial law. Bill also represents nonprofit entities and associations and is an active KCVLAA volunteer.

Linda Rippel has been a CPA since 1987. She has worked in the tax and small business tax planning areas with various CPA firms during her 18 years experience in public accounting. Linda is also active in the Kansas City Chapter of the Missouri Society of CPA's, of which she is the past President. She has been anactive volunteer for the KCVLAA and served on our board.

Thomas J. Schenkelberg is both an attorney and a certified public accountant with Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus PC. He has concentrated his practice in the area of tax and corporate law and his clients include a variety of public and private companies. Schenkelberg’s expertise includes business planning , structuring of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, choice of entity, joint ventures and the representation of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities.

Rebecca Stroder is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law. She serves as the board President and co-founder of the Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts. In her capacity with the arts community, Rebecca regularly speaks on artists’ legal issues, such as commission and galleryrepresentation, consignment and bailment issues, authentication and forgery, and copyrights. Rebecca is adjunct professor of intellectual property law at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law, and she also writes a monthly column on issues facing the art licensing community for the Licensing Journal. Rebecca is deeply committed to the arts community both in Kansas City and nationally, and she volunteers with the Kansas City Artists’ Coalition, the KC Ad Club, and ACID, an advocacy group for artists.

Holly Swangstu-Ferguson owns and operates Swangstu-Ferguson Studios, Inc. a private visual art school and gallery. Holly is a graduate and now a teacher for FastTrac, a program of the Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City that offers a practical, hands-on business development program designed to help entrepreneurs hone the skills needed to create, manage and grow a successful business. Holly has been leading teams in her one of a kind team building concept for the past 7 years. She has spent the past 10years teaching visual art to all ages and is an adjunct professor at the Kansas City Art Institute. Holly was Director of a young artists gallery in the heart of Kansas City’s Art District, and managed an arts-based employment program for the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City for four years. She has also written, co-produced and hosted the “Gallery Guide” of Time Warner Cable, a weekly informational art segment in Kansas City. She is a practicing artist and graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with an emphasis in textiles in 1994.
